About MTA Labs
MTA Labs has worked in the medical device field for 20+ years, including experience with linear accelerators, heart pumps, cardiovascular stents, microcatheters, staples, syringes, surgical instruments and implants, and techniques for uterine cauterization and kidney stone removal. Our strong background in corrosion science and engineering has helped qualify a variety of medical devices using ASTM specifications F-2129 and G-61 potentiodynamic electrochemical testing for passivity and pitting resistance. Our failure analysis process includes an initial visual examination using a high-performance stereoscopic microscope, followed by a more detailed examination using a scanning electron microscope. If materials composition is required, energy dispersive X-ray analysis is carried out at the same time. This work is often supported by metallographic sectioning and mechanical testing. - Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) - Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) - X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS / ESCA) - Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) - Metallography - Corrosion Testing (ASTM F-2129 / ASTM G-61) - Micro Hardness Testing - Surface Roughness Testing
